guy bainbridge has played both as a solo artist and with a variety of bands.  in 2000, he performed in new york city, where he wrote 'return to paradise' and 'sixth street serenade.'

patrick lawrence, a native of detroit, michigan, first picked up the violin at the age of 11, much to the dismay of his parents.  he now lives in the newcastle area, where he's often on the fiddle. 

the pair met at north tyneside college (now called 'tyne metropolitan college') in wallsend in 2001, where they still teach english to international students.    both avid prefab sprout fans, the two found they had much in common and started playing together.

they formed 'looks like rain' with andy hislop in the summer of 2003 and had a very successful year playing gigs throughout northumberland until the lineup disbanded in october 2004.  they are now known as the eiderdowns.
